Why Evaluate Information

It is important to evaluate information because not all information is accurate or of high quality. The CRAAP Test is a great tool to use when you are evaluating information.

CRAAP Test Questions to Ask

  1. When was the information published?
  2. Was the information revised or updated?
  3. Do you need current information or will older resources work as well?
  1. Does the information relate to your topic or answer your research question?
  2. Who is the intended audience?
  1. Who is the author?
  2. What are the author's credentials or organizational affiliations?
  3. Is the author qualified to write on the topic?
  4. Is there contact information for the author?
  1. Where does the information come from?
  2. Is the information supported by evidence?
  3. Has the information been reviewed or refereed?
  4. Does the information appear to be unbiased?
  5. Can the information be verified in another source?
  6. Are there spelling or grammatical errors?
  1. What is the purpose of the information? Is it to persuade, inform, or entertain?
  2. Does the author make the purpose clear?
  3. Is the information fact, opinion, or propaganda?
