Understanding Library of Congress Call Numbers

This tutorial gives a brief introduction to LoC call numbers and their meanings, as well as how to use them when locating a book in the library.

Books in Print

The location Mains Stacks is divided by call number as follows: 

  • 3rd floor A-G  
  • 4th floor H-PR
  • 5th floor PS-Z

Once you find your book look around that immidate section; for all books (except Gov Docs) are arranged by subject.
