This publication uses information from D&B's Financial Information base of public and private companies in over 800 lines of business to calculate industry financial norms and ratios. These norms and ratios are classified by industry and asset size so they can be used as benchmarking tools for assessing the financial strength of a company in comparison with industry peers.

This publication is compiled from more than 150,000 statements of commercial bank borrowers and prospects. These financial statements come directly to RMA from member institutions, who get their data straight from the customer. Most customers are, according to the RMA, small and medium size businesses. The data is presented by SIC (Standard Industrial Classification) or NAICS.
