1. How to Log In Through the Library Website:
Note: Login through the Library Website does not give you access to personalized features such as notifications, folders, highlights, and notes.
Go to the UTEP Library’s home page at http://www.utep.edu/library
Click on the “Articles & Databases” tab located under the Library heading
Go to the “Alphabetical list of database titles” and click on the "C" to locate Checkpoint Edge from the list retrieved
If you are using the computers located ON CAMPUS all you need to do is click on the name of the database to log on
How to Log on From an OFF-CAMPUS Site:
Off-campus (remote) access to the database requires a connection to UTEP's network. UTEP faculty, staff, and students can connect via the following methods:
The Library’s Proxy Server - not secure; use on devices to which you do not have administrator access
Global Protect VPN - it is highly recommended that you use this method. Read the note below.
Note: Students can access the Checkpoint Edge database through the library’s IP authenticated access (Library's website) without needing a personal account. A personal account just provides extra personalized features such as notifications, folders, flagged, and notes.
If you are using the computers located ON CAMPUS, you can register for a personal account (i.e. Student ID) via the link circled below.
If you are OFF CAMPUS and you want to register for a personal account, it is required that you have an active Campus VPN connection and access the account registration page with the following un-proxied link http://cpreg.thomsonreuters.com. Since you are off-campus, you may be asked to log in with your UTEP ID and Password first. The account registration page will then open in a new window:
Personal and work email addresses are NOT allowed. You must use the email address that was issued to you by UTEP. This is required to validate the domain and to prevent abuse.
After the registration has been submitted, you will receive an email from RIA Checkpoint Registration containing the login instructions.
TO ACCESS CHECKPOINT, go to http://checkpoint.tr.com and enter the user name and password listed in the email. Once you are logged in, you will be prompted to change the password.
After the setup process has been completed, you will be able to log into Checkpoint from any location and device that has internet access (i.e. computer, tablet or Smartphone).
Student IDs are temporary and will automatically expire on July 31st and December 31st.
If you already have a Checkpoint ID but are unable to log into the system, your ID has expired. You will need to re-register using the steps outlined above to have your ID reactivated.
Note: The registration page functions best with Chrome or Firefox. If you are using Internet Explorer 8, you will need to verify that you are in “compatibility view” in order to accept the License Agreement. To switch, click on the Tools menu, and choose Compatibility view.
