Bibliographic Number Search
There’s two ways to search for Short Title Catalogue (STC) numbers: a) One is to use the EEBO database to find titles, and then locate the STC in the record; b) The other is to search the "Wing" printed catalog of STC numbers. These methods will be briefly covered here.
a). EEBO database STC Number Search by Author Search
b). Printed Catalog of Wing STC Numbers
1641-1700 (period covered)
A Wing number refers to the Short-title catalogue of books printed in England, Scotland, Ireland, Wales, and British America, and of English books printed in other countries, 1641-1700, compiled by the bibliographer Donald Wing (1904-1972). These numbers can be used to identify items in EEBO. However, these catalog & numbers were superseded by the English Short Title Catalogue (ESTC). You can’t find items in EEBO with ESTC numbers.
