Primary source materials for environmental history in Mexico and the borderlands

           

Personal and family papers:    Examples include Hyslop-Beckmann family papers (mining and ranching); Ian Benton hacienda records (ranching); John G. Barry papers on economic geology; Max Weber papers (mining, water resources); H. B. Stevens papers (real estate, insurance, and railroads); Elsie McElroy Slater papers (wrote about birds, ferns of El Paso region) 

           

Business records:  Mexico Northwestern Railroad and other railroads in Mexico (part of John H. McNeely papers); Zork Hardware (sold mining supplies); Milpillas Hacienda Records (ranching); Chisos Mining Company records (mining in Terlingua, Texas)

 

Organizational records:   Alert Citizens for Environmental Safety (ACES) records (group fighting nuclear waste dump in Sierra Blanca); Texas Water Resources Collection

 

Photographic collections:  Gertrude Fitzgerald photographs (lumber and railroads); Paso Del Norte Airshed Visibility Project slides; Manuel Carrillo collection (traditional Mexican agriculture, other industries),  El Paso Times negatives, El Paso Herald-Post photo files, Aultman photographs
