Keeping Abreast of Scholarly Literature in the Sciences and Engineering

About Web of Science

Web of Science is one of the databases of Web of Knowledge.  Web of Knowledge easily allows you to create RSS feeds or email alerts from your searches as long as you are only searching one of it's databases.

Web of Science, Medline, and Zoological Record are traditional databases, that is, you can find articles in them.  Journal Citation Reports however, is not a place to find articles, it is a place to find information on journals.  It has information on journal rankings, how often a journal is cited in a year, and it's impact factor (impact factor is a journal measurement owned by Journal Citation Reports that is used by some to determine the journal's importance in the field).

General searches in WOS

General searches in three of the four Web of Knowledge databases work the same: the button to create an alert or RSS feed is in the same place.

You will have to be logged in to your free Web of Knowledge account to create an RSS feed or Email Alert.

Web of Science has special features the others don't.  Web of Science allows you to see how influential individual authors and articles are.
