Interlibrary Loan (ILL): What is InterLibrary Loan?

Can I use UTEP's ILL Service?

If you are a student, staff, or faculty member, you are eligible to use UTEP's ILL service.

How much does it cost?

  • $.50 processing fee for each request.

What is it?

  • ILL is a service one can use to borrow materials from other libraries.

If you're sure UTEP doesn't own it, ILL it.

How long does it take?

  • Materials can be obtained through ILL in 7-11 days, on average.

However, some things-- like electronic copies of journal articles-- might be returned in as soon as 24 hours; materials that are difficult to find may take a little longer to arrive. Either way, there's no definite amount of time it takes for items to arrive. Just be sure to start your research early so that you'll have all your resources at the ready in a timely manner.

Are there any rules/ restrictions I should know about?

  • Make sure that the UTEP Library doesn't own the material you're requesting.

  • Honor the due dates displayed on the material you borrow; they are set by the lending library, so you'll be responsible for any late fees they charge.

  • ILL requests must be made through ILLiad-- not in person.

Also see the ILL Department's policies listed, in their own words.
