Course Description: The course ENGL 3306: Young Adult Literature emphasizes major works of literature that appeal to the young adult reader with an emphasis on contemporary writing about adolescent development. Undergraduate students will gain perspectives from a rich study of young adult literature that will include surveying and discussing genres, writing young adult literature, and reading young adult literature.


The intersections of authorship, class, gender, race, and sexuality and how these inform reading production will be analyzed with close reading and critical thinking approaches. Moreover, readings, assignments, and selected footage will launch our discussions about young adulthood that include autobiographical, autofictive, and graphical works and poetry.
