ARTG 3316 Graphic Design 3: Art Criticism

This is a library guide dealing with copyright issues, made specifically with the visual arts in mind.

How to Critique Art (The basics)

(1) identify and describe what one physically sees

(2) analyze the components of the artwork based on the elements of design – line, shape, mass, color, value, time and space, etc.

(3) analyze the components of the artwork based on the principles of design such as form, content, flow, scale and proportion, etc.

(4) assessment of the strengths and/or weaknesses of the piece.
